The rest of his brothers were coal miners but JAMES HYND had asthma and became a Tailor where would I look to find out who he was apprenticed to? Secondly My grandfather married in Salford 1887 - was there a depression in Fife at that time? Was there any organised emigration to the North of England for work?

Also I am doing a one named study of JAP in the DALGETY area. If any members have any information on variations of the name - please contact me. Is the name from the Low Countries of Europe - (Holland, Belgium) and brought to Fife by the Flemish weavers?? [Note - JAPP, JAPE,YAPE occur in Scotland. Also much earlier spellings occur of YEAP, YEP, JAIP, JAAP, JOP (also JOB and JOPP). JAPPIE and JAPPY seem to be modern diminutives of JAPP.

Their son MARK CHADWICK AITON b. 6 July 1827 and daughter CATHERINE b. 27 Jan 1829 in Abbotshall. Can anyone help? I have completed (as far as I can!) family histories and trees for the AYTOUNS of Inchdairnie and for the AYTONS of Kinaldie and am now working on the 'parent family' the AYTONS of Dunmuir, later of Ayton in Abdie parish. I will send copies to the FHS in due course. You may be interested to know that I am in touch with a Netherlander, Mr. Pieter Cor AITTOUN who is a direct descendant of THOMAS AYTOUN of the Inchdairnie family who fled to Holland in the early 18th Century because of his Jacobite sympathies. P.C.A. is now in the process of matriculating arms as AYTOUN of Inchdairnie and his house in Zuidhorn is called Inchdairnie.

Mrs JOAN BRADSHAW (169) - 4 Ashford Close, Lancaster LA1 4QH, England - writes to tell us that her Family History Society holds a Street and Surname Index for the 1861 Census from Preston North of Ribble up to Ulverston and includes Barrow in Furness and Lancaster and villages in between and is willing to help any of our members researching this area. They have a Workshop every month at Lancaster and some of the members are willing to do a little research for similar prices as our genealogical helper system. Also Does anyone have any knowledge of Fife people moving to Cornwall as miners? Some of surname HUSBAND seem to be down there and I wonder if they have wandered from Scotland? Any information will be appreciated.

DAVID CHAPELL (210) - 8 Fir Leaze, Nailsea, Bristol BS19 2DH, England - is interested in BAYNE's in Fife. WILLIAM BAYNE, was born 22 Feb 1710 in Carnbee and married MOYES CHRISTIAN on 31 May 1741 in Carnbee, and was a tenant father. Their eldest son ALEXANDER BAYNE was born 24 Dec 1744 in Pittenweem and married EWING JACOBINA on 15 Jan 1780 in Edinburgh - he died 2 Jun 1823 at Kilham in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. ALEXANDER who moved to Yorkshire was a penniless parson. The youngest son and brother to ALEXANDER was WILLIAM BAYNE. WILLIAM however managed to leave two mills (one being New Mill in Cupar), a farm there and several properties in Cupar. I understand how the sasine system tells me what happened to his properties, but how can I find out how he came about them in the first place??

HELEN IRWIN (216) - Box 430, Ruthven, Ontario, Canada NOP 2GO is searching for her ancestors in Fife. ANDREW TURNBULL was born around 1817, probably near Leslie and raised on a cattle farm. He was one of several children and worked in a weaving mill at Coupar (Cupar?), then went to Kirkcaldy where he is said to have worked in a linoleum factory prior to emigration to Canada about 1845. ANDREW had a sister MARGARET and a brother JOHN, all of whom emigrated to Canada. ANDREW TURNBULL married AGNES SWAN in 1836 in Leslie or Coupar. AGNES was born in the Leslie or Coupar area around 1818. ANDREW died in Canada in 1898 and AGNES died in Canada in 1903. I am interested in tracing the SWAN and TURNBULL families in Scotland.
