"OLD KIRKCALDY-CENTRAL, NORTH AND WEST"

High Street, Kirkcaldy

The spire on the left of this 1905 picture belongs to the West End Congregational Church, built in 1874. On the right is the Abbotshall Free Church dating from 1869 and deprived of its spire in the 1970's when it was converted into a shop. The two-storey eighteenth century buildings closest to this church were replaced by a three-storey tenement with shops on the ground floor before 1907. Those closest to the camera were replaced by a safeway supermarket; the shop is now closed.
